Lots of buzz today about Abercrombie and their push-up bras for kids. I have actually heard more about this today than Japan and the tsunami! I mean, really – do you think sometimes these things are made into more because of all the buzz?
Yes, Abercrombie has a history of marketing these sorts of things.
Yes, 6-year-old girls should not be wearing push-up bra bikinis.
Yes, we have famous people out there whom our kids tend to look up to or think are cool.
Who is buying these things? I am sure the 6 year old is not walking into stores like Abercrombie and purchasing a bathing suit herself. Someone has to be approving of it, buying it, and letting her wear it.
So who is at fault here?
Unfortunately there are bad things all over the world. It is up to parents to teach kids and show them right from wrong. Push-up bikini tops are just a part of the ever-growing wardrobe out there for girls these days. Why all of a sudden are people in such an uproar? Did they miss the low-cut tops or the form-fitting jeans?
How about the moms out there who are getting cosmetic surgery to ‘better’ their appearances? What is that telling our kids?
Truth is, in appropriate clothing has been around as long as I can remember. Parents just seem to be getting well, can I say ‘lazier’ about teaching their kids what is appropriate and what is not – allowing these things to happen. Not to mention, role modeling in all the wrong ways.
What do you think? Do you really think it is the fault of Abercrombie?
